Laurel Shortell conquers the Race to the Top of Vermont, completing the first 3 races in the Northeast Uphill Mountain Series and continues her lead! After the race, she shares a photo with previous course record holder Josh Ferenc, left, and new record holder Eric Blake.

The race was amazing with a nice course, outstanding views, top notch competitors, a live band, delicious barbeque, ton of great raffle prizes and an outstanding RD,  Jim Fredericks!!!

Next race is the Mount Greylock Road Race on Monday, September 2nd. For info.     http://www.runwmac.com/info-greylockroad2013.pdf

After that there is the Whiteface Mountain Uphill Race on Saturday, Sept 14th. For info. http://www.whitefaceregion.com/events/whiteface-mountain-uphill-footrace

Greylock and Whiteface will be the last races for this year.

Next year will be the Ascutney Mountain Run, and the Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race, which will count if you get in. Washington will also serve as the final race of the Series.

Prospect Mountain and Wachusett might be added for next year (?), will update later if that works out.

Laurel and I pose with RD Carol Meader after the race atop Beautiful Hackers Hill in Casco, Maine. Awards were on the summit and winners were awarded homemade pies…yum! There were a lot of other prizes that were given out by random draw. A very nice race indeed! Thanks to Carol and the MANY volunteers for a fun time!!!
Laurel placed 3rd in her age group here and earned 55.91 points for a two race total of 111.31 points. She is quite excited about the 3rd race, the Race to the Top of Vermont that takes place on Sunday, August 25th on the Famous Mount Mansfield Toll Road in Stowe, Vermont. It is 4.3 miles in length rising 2,564’ from a starting elevation of 1,279’ up to 3.843’.
