Greylock Road Race

4^th series, race #2

When we arrived at 7:45 it was 55 degrees and sunny, very nice! As the race this year was not only a part of this series, but it was also a part of USATF-NE Mountain Series. Even this early, getting a good parking spot was challenging. Needless to say, there was a much larger field than usual!

Berkshire Running Center did another great job of putting the race on with lots of wonderful volunteers and finish line pictures…thank you so much!!!

The course follows the paved road on the North side of the mountain from Williams Reservoir 8 miles to the 3,491’ summit, rising about 2,400 vertical feet.

Welcome to our newest members Cris Cote n Meg paugh! So, we officially have 16 competitors for the 4^th series! Thanks for signing up n hope you have a lot of fun!!!

Weather during the race was near perfect! Winning this year was Matthew Veiga in 55:14 and Leslie O’dell in 1:05:57. A total of 166 runners completed the race.

Leading the way for our runners was Josh Curtis(41M) in 11^th place in 1:05:29. Next was Jeff Gould(51M) in 16^th place in 1:07:21 followed by Kevin Cavanaugh(47M) in 17^th in 1:07:27. Len Hall(63M) led the older guys in 19^th and 1:09:27 followed closely by Bob Mulvaney(63M) in 24^th in 1:11:31. Meg Paugh(31F) was our 1^st woman in 36^th place in 1:15:10 followed by Donna Smyth(56F) in 48^th in 1:16:56. Cris Cote(53M) was 57^th in 1:20:32 followed closely by Sau-Mei Leung(50F) in 58^th in 1:20:39. Paul Jones in 65^th in 1:21:53. Seventy year young me was 71^st in 1:23:46, Darrel Lasell(58M) 104^th in 1:34:02, Walter Kuklinski(67M) 110^th in 1:34:44, Dennis Gilyard(65M) 114^th in 1:36:10, Jill Larson(43F) 122^nd in 1:38:11 and Elaine Dill(68F) 124^th in 1:38:16. Congratulations to everyone! As Dave Dunham once said after one of his Northfield races…“You are now 40% Mountain Goat” J

The North Face Race to the Top of Vermont

4^th series, race #1

Starting out for the run at 9am, the weather was great! Overcast with a few sprinkles and 65 to 70 degrees. Started to get sunnier as we progressed. The race course is the Toll Road on the East side of the mountain, 4.3 miles in length and rising 2,564 vertical feet. Thank you to RD Greg Maino, the wonderful volunteers and the Great Sponsors for another successful event!

Starting the 4^th year of the series, there are more runners than ever! I’d like to welcome Kevin Cavanaugh, Josh Curtis, Sao-Mei Leung, Paul Jones, Darrel Lasell, Jill Larson & Elaine Dill for joining us in the series and wish us all good luck in staying injury free and finishing all the races!

Leading the 465 finishers, was Josh Ferenc, finishing in 35:48. He turned around and ran back down, hopped on his bike and raced up again in the bike race that started at 10am, now quite sunny and warm! This year they had a division for that which he won in 1:45:28, leading 4 others!

We had 14 runners finishing this first race! Leading the way was Kevin Cavanaugh in 43:45 finishing 2^nd (of 53) in the 40-49 men’s age group! Next was Jeff Gould in 46:03 finishing 3^rd (of 52) in the men’s 50-59 age group! Following Jeff was Josh Curtis in 46:41 placing 7^th in the men’s 40-49 age group. Len Hall was out first 60-69 in 48:16 placing 2^nd in that group. Len was followed closely by Bob Mulvaney in 49:01 placing 3^rd in Len’s group. Our first woman was Donna Smyth in 52:57 and 4^th of 41 other women in the women’s 50-59 age group. Coming in after Donna was Sao-Mei Leung in 59:04 placing 8^th in Donna’s age group. Paul Jones finished in 59:04 and was 20^th of 47 in 40-49 age group. I was next in 59:38 finishing 1^st in the 70+ age group. Darrel Lasell was next in 1:05:53 placing 34^th in the 50-59 age group. Then Jill Larson finished in 1:06:24 and was 20^th of 47 in the 40-49 age group. Walter Kuklinski did well, as he was recovering from an injury, finishing in 1:07:15 and 18^th in 60-69 age group. Elaine Dill was next in 1:07:46 and was 4^th of 8 in 60-69 age group. Dennis Gilyard, also coming back from an injury, finished in 1:08:10 and was 21^st in 60-69 age group.
