Ascutney Hill Climb, Saturday, June 12, 2021

7th series (2019-2021) – race 4 of 5

Congratulations to Eric Blake Corey Dowe on their wins! We are so grateful to RD Brandon Baker and Team AMP for all their work to get this to even happen…AND all the awesome volunteers and sponsors!!!

Brandon setting up registration

We lucked out again with the weather! 55’s and overcast when we
arrived @ Ascutney State Park @ 6:50…1st in line to spot a car @ the
finish parking area. Pretty sure I saw, somewhere, some(20) would
be allowed to do this?
Donna & Tammy waiting to drive up to spot a car.

As time passed more folks showed up but it wasn’t until 7:47 we started up!

It was so neat, we were above the clouds! Left Tammy’s car and headed down @ 8:03.
Looking down on the clouds from the finish @ 8am.

We had already picked up our race numbers, so started normal “warm up routine”.

I decided to take pictures, so carried my camera…can you say Ken Skier? What
ever happened to Ken? Was always @ these races early on. Ken even ran barefoot many times!

Brandon gave a few instructions, got in his car and started the race! A real
mountain race…how wonderful was that!!!

I took pictures of the start then joined in. Did the mountain seem
steeper/longer to anyone else???

So awesome to go through the clouds into the sun, fortunately not long
before the finish line!
Running into the clouds!

How wonderful to meet up with mountain running friends!!!

As we descended, we saw Ray Boutotte making his way down. Asked if he
wanted a ride and he joined us. If you don’t know Ray, he was the
5th person to complete 100 USATF-NE Mountain Circuit Races!
Ray finishing another Mountain Race!

As always, please let me know of any/all errors.

Pictures from the day follow the standings. If you get any at Washington and want to possibly use in

write up, send along.

If anyone would be willing to do a write-up about their Mt Washington race day, that would be great!!!

Northeast Uphill Mountain Series #8; 2021 - 2022

Just got word the Mt Greylock road Race will take place this year! So, with that confirmed I will hold the 8th series 😍

If each race Director has anything to add, please feel free to "Reply to all" and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

The Race to the Top of Vermont is 1st up on Sunday, August 29th followed by the Mt Greylock Road Race on Sunday, September 5th. Fyi...the RTTTOVT has a 600 total limit to include runners, hikers & bikers.

Link for Greylock; Mt. Greylock Road Race - Berkshire Running Center

The other races will be the Prospect Mountain Road Race, the Ascutney Mountain Run and the Grand Finally @ the Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race.

To join the series you are required to help support the great work done by the American Trail Running Association and the Mount Washington Obervatory. I donate my time to coordinate this series for runners who want to work towards a Mt. Washington Road Race lottery by-pass, but can't do the up/down races in the USATF-NE Series. This is a very specific alternative.

*** Send a tax-deductible check for $15 made out to America Trail Running Association (ATRA), PO Box 9454, Colorado Springs, CO 80932             http://trailrunner.com/

Please indicate “neuhms - team support” on your check memo line

*** Send a tax-deductible check for $15 made out to Mount Washington Observatory, PO Box 2310, North Conway, NH 03860

   https://www.mountwashington.org/

Please indicate “Northeast Uphill Mountain Series” on your check memo line

The series will once again be made up of the same 5 races as the 7th series that are all uphill on roads.  It’s up to you to enter each race. To qualify for a 2023 Mt Washington by-pass you must complete 4 of the 5 races.

(Mount Washington  will count, if you get in. In order to meet series requirements, you must enter the lottery. If you don’t get in email me your notice of not getting in and you will  still be considered  a “Mountain Goat” towards a lottery by-pass, if you complete the other races.)

Benefits:

·         Lottery by-pass to the    Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race

·         Great camaraderie with others of similar interests, not to mention the pleasure of running up beautiful mountains!

·         Support for fellow runners that will represent the USA at the World Championship by helping defer THEIR OWN personal costs to compete!

·         Support for the great work performed by the World Famous Mount Washington Observatory!

·         Custom certificates for each runner that attains “Mountain Goat” status by completing all the races.

.          Men’s & Women’s overall winners will receive $75 for first place, $50 for second place, and $25 for third place, based on total points from your best 4 races (which is how everyone will be scored).  Whoever wins the race gets 100 points; everyone else’s points will be calculated by dividing the winner’s time by your own. Example: winner’s time is 1 hour, yours is 2 hours. Your points would be 50.00. Thanks to my local running club, the Red Clover Rovers, for supporting this!

Lottery by-pass:

You must complete four of the five races. Up to 30 runners will be able to earn a lottery by-pass into the 2023 Northeast Delta Dental Mount Washington Road Race. If fewer than 30 runners join the series, all will have a chance. If more, the first 30 to join will be eligible to receive a by-pass, after the first 30, additional members will be put on waiting list.  To clarify, if one of the first 30 runners to sign-up doesn’t complete all the races, the next person qualifies for a lottery by-pass, etc. Placement of your entry into the series will be determined by the date and time your sign-up email is received by me. Send an email to mtnrunr@comcast.net to let me know WHENthe checks are in the mail” and you wish to join.

A HUGE thank you to the Mount Washington Auto Road for their support!!!

Tracking results:

After you complete each race, email your time to mtnrunr@comcast.net    Times will be as listed in the official results, so if you disagree with your time you must straighten it out with the RD.  I will calculate and keep track of points. (Fyi…I’m doing this on my own time, which I am volunteering, as I’ve wanted such a series since the late ‘70’s!). It’s all about keeping in shape n having FUN!!!
