Ascutney Mountain Run – 2^nd Series, race #4

Sunday, June 14, 2015 turned out to be a gorgeous day! It was cool and overcast on the way there.

When the race started @ 9am the sun had come out and got to about 75 degrees.

On the way up the course, in the sun, it felt quite hot.

Leading the way was Drew Best finishing in 30:36.  Kim Nedeau won for the women and placed 7^th overall in 34:22. There were 193 finishers.

Donna Smyth led the way, for runners in the 2^nd Northeast Uphill Mountain Series, finishing in 68^th place with a time of 43:57 good for third in her 50-59 age group.

Next up was Walter Kuklinski in 116^th place with a time of 50:29.

Behind Walt was Laurel Shortell in 149^th place with a time of 55:11.

And last but not least was myself in 169^th place with a time of 58:59.

Unfortunately, Dick Hoch wasn’t here today. That leaves Laurel, Walt & I as the only potential Mountain Goats. All we have to do is finish the Mount Washington Road Race next Saturday and we’ll earn lottery by-passes into the 2016 Mount Washington Road Race!

Donna with our friend Tammy, right, had never run a mountain race before. Her coach wanted her to do it as training. She didn't like it during the race! After, she thought it wasn't to bad...winning her age group didn't hurt :)
